THE FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONS – The Legendary 1937 Springboks

Michael Charton stumbled upon the untold story of the legendary 1937 Springboks in an old Cape Town bookstore.

Inspired, he set about locating the personal scrapbooks and albums of these old Springboks. A process which unearthed a set of amazing anecdotes: their unlikely bond with the Maori people; the last Springbok “Haka,” and a young Jewish star who would find his way into Hitler’s bunker. Stories offering a rare glimpse into the beauty of the human spirit.

The story weaves together the key characters of the tour into a compelling narrative which celebrates the amateur era of sport and reminds one through an emotional sense of nostalgia, what is truly important in life and legacy.
