Before South Africa became a free and democratic country in 1994, comedy couldn’t exist since freedom of expression was infringed. In its nature, comedy becomes the best when comedians are not restricted to making fun of any political, social or cultural issue. One of the gains of our democracy is that a creative industry started to grow and become limitless in different artistic expressions. Comedy is a form of art regarded as a mirror of society; it reflects on various issues affecting our society and makes fun of them. It is also a remedy to look at incidents and problems in a funnier way.
For that reason, Simphiwe Majozi Spring’s comedy show coincides with South Africa's celebration of democracy. One of the fundamental objectives of this event is to stage the best and biggest comedy show in South Africa and also create a platform for upcoming comedians. This will happen through a talent search that will take place across the country prior to the main event.
