The play, TSOGO (The Rise Of Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke), is a resurrection of an icon… exploring the life and time of one of South Africa’s pan African, black conscious, and feminist pioneers. The inventive premise of the story-arch will draw on Re-Birthing- Re-Imagining and Reflecting on Maxeke’s her-story, which will be echoed through seven female voices (characters)… played by seven actresses on stage. They all will represent seven portraits of Maxeke focusing on seven prominent milestones in her life, almost symbolizing seven decades of her existence and expression against not just tradition, but patriarchy and politics.
