MBUSO KHOZA & ijadu Le Afrika: Ihubo, with narration of historical events detailing origins of the music. The performance will include an interpretation of Ihubo as well as explore the relationship between Ihubo and songs of the struggle.
Ihubo are ancient songs sung by Abanguni in the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to mark significant events in their communities. The Abanguni griots and composers would capture all historically significant moments in songs that were then taught to future generations.
