Introduction to Maghrebi Script

The Andalusian Maghrebi Calligraphy is a script that originated in Andalusia in the 10th century AD and spread through Morocco and the rest of North Africa. It is a script originally derived from the Kairouanaise Kufic style. Since its inception, this script has been used mainly for writing the Qur’an due to the clarity and beauty of its letters. This type of calligraphy combines straight/hard (dry) movements with soft circular movements derived from the Kufic script. Numerous styles and techniques used to write this script have developed throughout the ages.
