Rags to riches, glass slippers and magic coaches, Cinderella makes her way to the ball!
Youth Dance Company of Tshwane (YDCT) celebrates 21 years of existence and presents Cinderella this year at the State Theatre. Cinderella was our first full-length production which was in 2002 so it is truly fitting that we will be performing this wonderful production again in commemoration.
YDCT has matured from that fledgling status and with a few artistic tweaks the work remains a challenge for all its young dancers.
This is the classical fairy-tale version of this well-loved tale complete with all the most loved characters of mice, the fairy godmother, the ugly stepsisters and of course the handsome prince charming.
What has made this YDCT so special, is its commitment to bridge the gap between studio and stage, by providing student ballet dancers with professional stage exposure from a young age. Rehearsing for months under the encouraging (and firm!) instruction of Sue Kirkland (Director), Tanja Graafland and Christopher Montague (Assistant Directors), each dancer gains valuable experience and is inspired to develop to their fullest artistic potential. This also gives other children the unique opportunity of seeing their peers on stage, performing to an exceptional standard. This collaboration makes this process even more exciting for audiences.
Young students from studios from around the Gauteng area come together to perform in this wonderful production so please come and join us at the state theatre drama and watch these wonderful performers.
There are 4 performances scheduled from 24 – 26 November. Opening night will be on Friday evening and then 3 other performances over the weekend.
On Saturday the 25th of November at 3pm a special Fairy Party will be hosted – a perfect outing for your little ones!
