It's that time of year again, when the Market Theatre Laboratory 2nd year students say “Goodbye” with their final creative offerings of the year, The Suitcase Pieces.
As our students bid farewell to their studies and embark on their new journeys as professional artists, join us at the AFDA Red Roof Theatre in witnessing their freshly devised works ready to be taken on the road!
With mentorship by industry professionals Xolisile Bongwana, Jaques Da Silva, Omphile Molusi and Sinenhlanhla Mgeyi, these pieces are not to be missed!
After two years of intensive training, the Market Theatre Laboratory sees its graduating class of seconds year students off with a final project called “The Suitcase Piece”. As the title suggests, these are pieces that can be easily packed into a suitcase and taken on the road. Various mentors are chosen by the students to help them shape pieces that are meaningful and well-crafted. The pieces may be newly devised works, expanded pieces that the students worked on during their two years, or adapted pieces - the choices are vast. We leave it up to the students to use all the tools they have learnt, defining their artistic voices as they move into the world of being professional makers and creatives.
