About

By Tim Forssman.
Telperion Shelter in western Mpumalanga provides us with an archaeological insight into a South African War refuge camp. The site was occupied by both black and white women and children, some inscribing the shelter’s wall with their names and depictions of life as a refugee. The site memorialises the actions of the families who remained at home and it brings to the fore the impact that the war had on domestic life.
