Written and performed by Bongukwazi Xulu, iNdodakazi Yakho is a narrative about three generations of women, who share similar traumas but are unable to share them with one another due to their patriarchal ways of thinking about themselves and their bodies.
Thus, allowing their trauma and the ways in which they deal with it if at all, to be inherited by their daughter(s); in the same way, the girl child would inherit the Khanga material of their deceased mother or grandmother in Kenya, as practised by the Swahili people.
iNodakazi Yakho was incited by the specific works of Ntozake Shange, Warsan Shire and Dominique Christina, that Xulu meshed up for her final performance exam at Wits.
