"The body so fluid in a world so rigid,
I cannot reclaim what was never mine to begin with."
How to capture a being made up of mostly water? If identity is fluid, what do you root yourself in? "Roots in the Water" embarks on a shape-shifting journey of poetry and music as it searches for home and belonging - in places and people, in heritage and history, in the body and the self. In the tradition of queer People of Colour, the work ultimately locates home in the in-between spaces: in the crossing of borders, the merging of worlds, in the disruption of the known that cracks open imagination.
Written and performed by Dshamilja Roshani.
