A Story I’m Here to Tell

A series of stories, accompanied by music, that that are interwoven to create a greater narrative. this work looks at our collective history as humanity, our history as a nation, as well as the personal history of its author. it also looks at the present, and dreams toward, and speaks life into, the future. the lyrics and music are a marriage of multiple genres and guarantee the audience member a unique, thought provoking, heart moving, and fun experience.
A Story I’m Here to Tell is a story in sound that makes its listener think and feel deeply. it is a chronicle of the history of humanity, South Africa, and its author. It takes the audience on a journey that begins at the formation of the world and looks at the brokenness that humanity has experienced that results in atrocities in the past and present. It is careful not to dwell on pain but looks at the redemption of humanity from a spiritual, psychological, and socio-economic perspective. The work integrates several genres including maskandi, hip hop, jazz, spoken word, and seben that are married together by the Lo Lights, a band comprising of bass, drums, saxophone, and the keyboard.
