JOBURG BALLET presents SCAR/CITY

A SEASON OF FIRSTS
Joburg Ballet launches the 2024 ballet year with Scar/city, an exhilarating trio of works showcasing one SA premiere and two world premieres in a programme that explores concepts of scarcity, absence and loss. Scarcity is something many South African’s have become accustomed to, whether through a lack of service delivery within the urban context or a loss of dignity. For Scar/city, German-based choreographer Hannah Ma is choreographing The Void while iconic SA dance maker Dada Masilo’s first-ever work for Joburg Ballet is called Salome. The third ballet is the first SA staging of Dutch-based choreographer Jorge Pérez Martínez’s Azul.
