Cape Town Opera commemorates the centenary of Puccini’s death with two of his masterful operas. Suor Angelica tells the tale of Sister Angelica, a young nun who is sent to the convent by her noble family as punishment for having conceived a child out of wedlock. The gravitas of Suor Angelica is complemented by the comedy of Gianni Schicchi. After Buoso Donati dies, his family squabbles for the substantial inheritance he has left. They call for Gianni Schicchi’s aid, but underestimate his cunning.
Duration: 2h 30m (including a 30 min interval between the operas)
