Swartwater

About

The Market Theatre Laboratory has partnered with Nama Khoi Productions to present their production SWARTWATER with support from The National Heritage Council. This powerful story transports you into the heart of a Nama family’s emotional journey as they confront the painful reality of leaving their homeland, SWARTWATER.

Immerse yourself in the gripping reimagining of the trials and tribulations faced by the indigenous Nama Khoi people during colonization and the diamond discoveries of the 1900s
The story follows a Nama family as they face the painful reality of once again being asked to uproot their lives and leave Swartwater, for the Cape Colony. Step into the world of Tieles, Sosanas, Sarah, and Mammies as they take us on a profound exploration of grief, resilience, and the unbreakable spirit of a people who refuse to be defeated.

Join us at SWARTWATER – where history, heritage, and heart meet. We can’t wait to see you there! Produced by Nama Khoi Productions, Written and directed by Geralt Cloete, Set Design by Angelinah Maponya, Performed by Jody-Ann Cloete; Liza-Marie De Waal; Diansca Obies and Annaline Joseph, Dramaturgy by Lee-Ann Van Rooi.
