This Novel is about a divided family. The eldest son of the Ngubane family, John Mbhabhadisi, lives an elite life with his family in Umlazi. Mbhabhasi’s sister, Linono has two children. When Linono marries a sugarcane cutter, her in-laws do not accept her fatherless children. Mbhabhadisi’s uncle, Ndosi Cele looked after these children until he succumbed to the pressure from the neighbours who say he must send the children to an urban area where they will get a better life. However, Mbhabhadisi refuses to take responsibility for his sister’s children. Mbhabhadisi and his wife are depicted floundering one mistake to the other.
