The UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble, comprising about forty-five under- and post-graduate students perform their first concert of 2025. The concert opens fittingly with Alfred Reed’s Curtains Up! A theatre overture for winds, followed by Fryges Hidas’s Circus Suite. The programme includes selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess as well as Rhapsody in Blue arranged for symphonic wind ensemble with soloist Isaac van der Merwe. The Ensemble is conducted by Brandon Phillips, Head of Woodwind and Ensembles at UCT.
