About

A pinch of South Africa, a teaspoon of France, a touch of Italy, a zest of Japan, all simmering in Strasbourg since 2016: these are the ingredients that make up the Quatuor Avena. Given their diverse and far-flung origins, it seems natural that the idea of proposing music illustrating travel and an assortment of world cultures germinated between Adam Campbell (South Africa), Nicolas Allard (France), Fabio Cesare (Italy) and Sumika Tsujimoto (Japan).

Take a trip around the globe with "Around the world in 80 minutes", an evocative show combining music and movement. Each stop on the journey is marked by music reminiscent of the places travelled through, either originally written or arranged for saxophone quartet, all enhanced by the choreography created with Isabelle Morane Rist.

Programme: Italian concerto, 3rd mvt (1735), by Johann Sebastian Bach Romanian Dances (1915), by Béla Bartók Sakura, Traditional japanese song Haru no Umi (1929), by Michio Miyagi Four for Tango (1988) by Astor Piazzolla Temple Hill & Molly on the shore (1907), by Percy Grainger Triptyque musette : La valse à Margaux, Le clown perdu and Beritwaltz (1989), by Richard Galliano Massar (2020), by Jean-Charles Richard (1974)

R65 - R165

Ramon Alexander has been busy in 2025 so far. Plans for a new album are underway. Furthermore, curating productions for numerous arts festivals and having been offered to conduct the 2025 National Schools Jazz Band in Makhanda are some exciting inspirations for the new music presented by Alexander. He will be supported by Annemie Nel on drums, Joshua Nemaire on double bass, and members of The Maties Jazz Society.
