Greyton Genadendal Classics for All Festival takes place in May every year in the iconic historic twin villages. The cream of artistic talent come together to entertain a dedicated audience that comes here for the love of classical music, the enjoyment of excellent restaurants and comfortable accommodation. Ten concerts over three days promise a saturation of your senses. From opera to Baroque, Chamber music, light musicals, choirs, orchestras… something for everyone, and some want it all!
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra presents an interactive, educational programme of popular classics, to be enjoyed by learners of all ages. The conductor introduces the various instruments and sections of the orchestra and invites a learner to try to conduct the orchestra. The concert is free of charge for all learners, and will be performed in Genadendal for learners from Emil Weder High School, L.R. Schmidt Primary School and Berea Moravian Primary School, and in Greyton for learners from Greyton Primary School, Uitkyk Primary School and Greyton House. Local school choirs will have the opportunity to perform with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Collaborating with a group of esteemed artists, flautist Liesl Stoltz presents a programme featuring the works of French cross-over pianist and composer Claude Bolling, as well as music by British composer and flautist Mike Mower. The programme includes the renowned Bolling Suites, which were made famous by the legendary French flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal. The Bolling Suites are a time fusion of classical and jazz elements, offering a sophisticated yet accessible listening experience. Also on the programme is the Sonata Latino by Mike Mower.
A showcase of five of Opera UCT’s finest young voices, accompanied by Dr Lisa Engelbrecht on piano, take the audience on a sparkling journey through the most beloved melodies, songs and waltzes of Strauss, Mozart, Lehar and more. The programme includes popular scenes, arias and ensembles from Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, Die Lustige Witwe, Der Rosenkavalier amongst others. 2025 marks the Bicentenary of the birth of the great Johann Strauss, an incredibly successful composer best known for his Viennese waltzes and operettas. The programme presents a carefully curated afternoon of delectable dialogues that will showcase the ‘great mediator’ of the bowed strings family — the viola — and its many diverse functions as a chamber music instrument with works by Kodaly, Harley, Enescu, Borodin, Elgar and Turina.

Falling in love can be quite the ordeal. The resulting euphoria is cruelly balanced with heartache and confusion, especially when the love is unrequited or inconvenient for the victim. These themes, thoroughly explored by ancient poets and composers, continue to echo into all the good love songs of today. Lutesong Consort presents a selection of poignant Italian love duets from (mostly) the 17th century that move — not only the emotions, but also the feet. Audiences can expect exquisitely interwoven melodic lines, complemented by the delicate, otherworldly sounds of the period.

A concert performance of Frédéric Chopin’s spectacular piano concertos in a chamber music setting for piano and string quartet. A rarely heard programme in this combination, full of virtuosity and the ravishing musical beauty for which Chopin is so well known and beloved. The Piano Concertos Op.11 and 21 are relatively early works, displaying Chopin at his most extroverted and virtuosic. Pianist José Dias partners with bassist Zanelle Britz and the Selene String Quartet — an outstanding team of young, prize-winning string players — to develop this unique programme.
International baritone William Berger, Classics for All favourite soprano Brittany Smith and tubaist Likhona Tokota perform timeless classical music with the WindWorx Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the batons of Riaan van Wyk (director) and Pamela Kierman; and the Vivox Voices Choir under the baton of Maria Rademan-Viviers.

The programme performed by the Cape Town Baroque Trio, explores the evolution of polyphony through the Baroque era and earlier, highlighting the equal importance of every voice in the ensemble. The repertoire will begin with early consort music for three treble viols, adapted for two violins and one treble viol, and progress through later works, culminating in the intricate Three-Part Inventions by JS Bach. The pieces chosen emphasize the collaborative nature of polyphonic music, where no single part takes precedence, and every voice contributes equally to the whole, interwoven by solo pieces including Bach
Hailing from Ashton in the Western Cape, the award winning Zolani Youth Choir is known for its electrifying traditional Songs infused with dance and body percussion accompanied by a Djembe. The choir, under the baton of founder Odwa Mvunge, tells African stories through African sound and prides itself by being musically versatile. They sing sacred, folk, traditional songs exploring different choral genres and promoting mostly South African composers. The programme includes sacred songs, American folk and spirituals, well-known classical songs and traditional music. The Choir has become one of South Africa’s most treasured choral groups recognized globally for their unique musicality.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, pianist and director Philippus Hugo invited some of his musician friends to join him on stage in a production called Mother/Moeder. Audiences can look forward to a feast of music from famous operas, operettas, music from well-known musicals and, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Afrikaans as official language, some of the most beautiful music made famous by Afrikaans composers/singers.
