Join the Friends of Isiko South African Museum VISIT HET POSTHUYS AND BAILEYS COTTAGE for a guided tour of both these historical landmarks on the Main Road in Muizenberg.
We commence at Het Posthuys (also known as De Post Huys), which is considered by many to be one of the oldest structures built by European settlers in South Africa. De Post Huys was built because of concern for the defence of the Cape following the outbreak of war between Holland, France, and England in 1672. The Cape Colony was considered vulnerable to an attack from the unguarded False Bay area.
We then have a 15-minute walk to Bailey’s Cottage, enjoying the wonderful sea views along the way. This beach cottage between the sea and the railway line dates from 1909 and was built for mining magnate and legislator Abe Bailey.
Tea/coffee and cake will be served at Het Posthuys after our tour. The refreshments are included at no extra cost.
Please wear suitable walking shoes and bring a sun hat.
