The light and colourful French Romantic style is both deeply touching and radiantly evident in Gaubert's "Trois Aquarelles" for flute (Louisa Theart), cello (Graham du Plessis) and piano(Nina Schumann). It is usually surprise to listeners to find that Gaubert wrote this piece in 1915 while serving in the French army, perhaps as an antidote to the horrors of trench warfare.
